Mark R. Thompson is a 2004 Cum Laude graduate of Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, where he was a recipient of the Dean's full-tuition academic scholarship award. Mark also served on the board of the school's law review, Environmental Law, and authored an article published in the review. Mark holds a B.S. in Conservation Biology from Brigham Young University and is admitted to the Oregon and Idaho State Bar. The focus of Mark’s practice is administrative law, with a special concentration on energy issues. Throughout law school, Mark engaged a variety of internships, including positions as a law clerk at the Oregon Attorney General’s Office, the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), and as a legal intern in the Office of General Counsel at PacifiCorp. From 2004 to 2006, Mark was employed as Staff Counsel for the Public Power Council. At the Public Power Council, Mark advised the region’s largest trade association of consumer-owned utilities on matters concerning power supply from BPA, environmental issues, and corporate affairs. transmission rate cases and in numerous cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mark has valuable experience with many of the laws that govern energy supply and development in the region, including the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act, Northwest Power Act, Federal Power Act, and Endangered Species Act. Mark is a native of Ontario, Oregon, and has family in the Boise and Ontario areas. Mark speaks Japanese, enjoys studying, being in the outdoors, and spending time with his wife and son.
